Infrastructure and Sustainability
Alex Opoku is a consultant and expert in Sustainable Built Environment who believes that sustainable infrastructure should be at the heart of the drive towards the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa. Dr. Opoku leads Avalanche’s infrastructure and sustainability portfolio, ensuring that infrastructure projects meet international sustainability requirements right from their conception to operation and management. He has many years of experience in the UK construction industry having worked as a Quantity Surveyor for a number of top tier contractors.

His passion for sustainable development has led him to found the Construction4SDG2030 forum (Construction Business Forum for the Sustainable Development Goals) in partnership with HTA Design LLP and WokenUp Ltd.

Dr Alex Opoku holds a PhD in Construction & Project Management from the University of Salford. He has read an MSc in Quantity Surveying Commercial Management from Leeds Metropolitan University and a BSc (Hons) in Building Management from the Nottingham Trent University. He is currently an Associate Professor in Project Management and Quantity Surveying at the Bartlett School of Construction & Project Management, University College London (UCL). Alex is a Chartered Surveyor of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. He is also a Chartered Construction Manager of the Chartered Institute of Building.
