Matsele Fosa
Spatial Planning and Development
Matsele Fosa is a spatial planning and development consultant at Avalanche Consulting. Her role is centred around providing solutions aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Ms. Fosa has a robust spatial planning experience from her years working at the Ministry of Local Government of Lesotho as a primary planner at Mamants’o Community Council. As a planner with approximately 10 years’ experience in spatial planning, she has experience in designing masterplans, organising planning stakeholder fora, and collecting, validating and analysing geospatial data. Collection of geospatial data for sustainable planning was part of a project called #maplesotho done in collaboration with Fingal County Council (Republic of Ireland) through OpenStreetMap platform, the first of its kind in Africa.

She has also been estates survey assistant, working with a data collection team supporting the space planning team at Nottingham Trent University in its pursuit of the World University Ranking sustainability accreditation. Her role included surveying learning spaces and gathering information on the learning spaces that considered number of occupants and the type of activity such spaces were used for. She was also tasked with interpreting floor plans, data input, analysis and maintaining a comprehensive audit trail of all work the team conducted. She has been a volunteer working with Humanitarian OpenStreetMap to map disaster-stricken areas in Africa and Asia. Her masters research was published with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.

Ms Fosa has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Urban and Regional Planning at the National University. She has read a Master of Science in Property Development and Planning at Nottingham Trent University. She holds a certificate in Sustainable Cities from the Sustainable Development Goals Academy.
